2011-2012 Environmental Poster Contest
Every year, ACHD Air Quality hosts a poster contest for all 6th-8th grade students in Allegheny County. Themes are decided by the Pollution Prevention & Education Subcommittee of the Air Advisory Committee, and vary each school year. Themes relate to the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Environment and Ecology, so as to fit in with teacher’s curriculum. The posters are meant to be a supplemental or extracurricular activity for students.
Teachers are asked to select the top 3 student posters in each class to submit to ACHD. The Pollution Prevention & Education Subcommittee then reviews all submissions and determines the top 3 winners, based on creativity, the strength of the message, and the accuracy of information.
All students with submitted posters receive a certificate of participation, and the top 3 winners receive environmental prizes. Winning posters are published on the ACHD website and in the ACHD newsletter, Eco-Currents.

Three students in grades 6-8 are winners in ACHD's 13th Annual Environmental Poster Contest, held each year in commemoration of Earth Day 2012, April 22.
The theme of this year’s contest was “Forget Fossil Fuels!” which aimed to have students explore alternative sources of energy and renewable fuels to help reduce air pollution and to conserve resources.
Students prepared 11"x17" posters as a means to get this message across.
