Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato today unveiled an updated website for Allegheny Places, the county’s comprehensive plan. Allegheny Places addresses many aspects of life in the County, including housing, recreation, transportation, environmental resources, jobs equity and more, by setting countywide policies for land development, conservation and economic initiatives.
“Allegheny Places is a unique blueprint for a sustainable future envisioned by the citizens of Allegheny County,” said Onorato. “The new Allegheny Places website offers a forum for people to gain a better understanding of how the comprehensive plan will be implemented in our communities.”The website includes information about the effects of the comprehensive plan, tools and model ordinances that municipalities can use to develop and update their plans, and checklists and other information to assist with preparation of state grant and permit applications. The site also offers an opportunity for municipalities, Councils of Governments, non-profit organizations, and community organizations to share ideas and projects that will aid in the implementation of the plan.
In addition, the website features numerous resources, such as the full version of the adopted plan, extensive maps and GIS information, and an eLibrary that includes publications, books, planning studies, and other comprehensive plans.
Onorato launched the comprehensive planning process in 2005. After receiving an incredible amount of input from Allegheny County residents, businesses and organizations, the comprehensive plan was adopted by County Council on November 5, 2008.
