Farrakhan Tells Obama to Toughen Up in the Next Debate
Louis Farrakhan is never a man to water-down his words for anyone. In a recent speech in Charlotte this week, the minister aimed right at the self-esteem of President Barack Obama in reference to his next debate. His message was clear: Stand up and fight for what you believe in.
“Mr. President, you’ve got to realize you’re fighting for your presidential life,” said Farrakhan. “You’re fighting for your vision of the Democratic Party and the country.”Farrakhan was speaking on the 17th anniversary of the 1995 Million Man March. He changed the nature of his speech at the last minute, which is the right you earn when you are a 79-year old leader with the ability to influence millions of people. In addition to speaking about President Obama, Farrakhan also talked about the stain of racism in America.
Farrakhan bashed the Republicans for attacking President Obama with purely racist motives. He also said that politics is now controlled by both money and racist interests. He criticized Mitt Romney for his lies and half-truths during the last presidential debate, but he also criticized President Obama for not responding effectively.
“Feels like your champion didn’t show up for the fight,” Farrakhan said. “If you lose the first round or two, you go to your corner. It’s called ‘adjustment time.’ Every good fighter knows how to make an adjustment. You don’t get lost.”
Farrakhan believes that part of Obama’s trepidation is that if he’d been equally aggressive toward Romney, whites would have abandoned him.
“You can’t go out there and beat up on a white man. You’re going to lose the white vote,” said Farrakhan.
But unfortunately for President Obama, his timid reaction to Romney caused him to lose white votes anyway. Since the debates, Romney has taken the lead in several swing states and the election is now much closer than it would have been otherwise.
Farrakhan sees the flaws in Obama’s approach and says that he would have been better off being aggressive:
“You aren’t going to win any more white votes by being kind and gracious,” he said. “Be a little black.”
The election of President Barack Obama has been a referendum on race in America. More African Americans showed up to the polls than ever before, and the president won 95% of the black vote. Some have accused black Americans of blind loyalty toward President Obama, but others criticize the Republican Party for having a blindly racist motivation for removing Obama from the White House.
