John Cater, Former KDKA-TV Anchor-Reporter Dies, at age 32

It is with a heavy heart and deepest sympathy that we report the passing of John Cater who passed away Tuesday 1/19/2010 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

John was a very active member of AABJ (Atlanta Association of Black Journalists). Many of you know that he freelanced as a reporter at WSB-TV, WXIA-TV and finally at WGCL-TV. John also reported in Pittsburgh, PA and Jackson, MS among other cities. Cater left KDKA in late 2007 after a three-year stint at the station,

The AABJ board has been in contact with John's mother, Gloria Randolph. She has informed us that John's remains will be sent to Illinois Wednesday morning. His funeral service will be held this weekend.

Randolph, said John had gone to Johannesburg, South Africa, for Christmas and took ill after returning home.

"He came back and had a high fever and couldn't really shake it," Randolph said. "The doctors seemed to believe it was some kind of infection that they couldn't locate."

John's big smile, kind heart and young vibrant personality will be greatly missed. Please keep John's mother and his entire family in your prayers.

You may send your condolences to:
